CORPORATE WORDS WEDNESDAY – 5/10/17

Every organization has numbers that they need to meet. Some refer to them as goals. Others refer to them as objectives or targets. One guy referred to them as “glass balls” one year. I never did get the meaning of that. Maybe there was no meaning to it.

“Goals” are aspirational, they are mandatory. You need to hit your “goals” in order to keep your job. Then we have “Stretch Goals”. Stretch Goals are those that are introduced by management. They are neither realistic nor achievable. “Stretch Goals” sounded cool to some corporate nitwit once upon a time and has been perpetuated from that point on.
