If I am ever channel surfing, I can never surf past The Shawshank Redemption. My favorite part is when Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), tells Red that he wants to live out his life on a beach on the Pacific Ocean as the Mexicans say that the Pacific “has no memory”. These days, a warm place with no memory should be appealing to most.
I try to be optimistic but I’m more intrigued by reality. Reality will start to hit tomorrow at 8:30 A.M. when the unemployment numbers from last week are released. Estimates are anywhere from 2-5 million Americans that filed to start unemployment benefits last week. The week before, it was 281,000. I don’t know how much of that is baked into stock and bond prices already but, either way, watch out!
The way out of this is careful planning, meticulous attention to detail and patience. That’s what led Andy Dufresne, in his convertible, to the beach on the ocean with his hotel and a charter boat for his guests. Red later joined him. I wonder if a place like that really exists.
